Laura DellaFera - Voice and Piano
Laura DellaFera has established herself as a versatile performer of opera, musical theatre, and concert work. She came to the Boston area in 2012 after completing a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music in Voice Performance and Pedagogy at Westminster Choir College. Since then, she has been teaching piano and voice to a wide range of ages and abilities. Laura tailors her lessons to fit the individual student’s needs, abilities, and goals, making each lesson experience most beneficial for every student.
With voice students, Laura works on developing a healthy singing technique which focuses on posture, breath support, resonance, vowel clarity, and musicality. Students learn music from multiple genres, everything from classical music in different languages to musical theatre to popular music, and also work on sight reading, aural training, and note-reading to ensure that they are well-rounded musicians. Laura’s goal is for her students to sing everything with a healthy technique and in an appropriate musical style.
For piano students, Laura builds a knowledge of music theory and music history into the lessons. She works with students who are both young and old beginners, as well asadvanced pianists, and everything in between. Her teaching philosophy is to foster a love and appreciation of music in all of my students, and promote their individual musical and intellectual growth.
As a performer, Laura has sung leading roles with a number of opera companies in the Greater Boston area, including Boston Opera Collaborative, MetroWest Opera, and Opera del West. She has also been featured as a young artist at various summer festivals including the Pittsburgh Festival Opera, the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, and the CoOPERAtive program.
