Deborah Yardley Beers - Piano
Deborah Yardley Beers has performed as piano soloist with the Atlanta Symphony, the Denver Symphony, and three other symphony orchestras. She has also performed live on WGBH radio as well as in solo and chamber recitals in this country and abroad. A semifinalist as a pianist in the Ima Hogg National Young Artists Auditions in Houston, Texas; winner of the William S. Cooper Young Performers Award (from the Boulder Philharmonic Society); and winner of a Spencer Penrose Scholarship Award from the Central City (Colorado) Opera House Association, her piano teachers included Leonard Shure, Edward Kilenyi, and Karl Engel. She also studied composition with Harold Schiffman, and took classes in improvisation from Eloise Ristad. Now also on the faculty of the Rivers School Conservatory in Weston, Beers taught piano at the Longy School of Music for twenty-five years, and was Associate Chair of the Piano department there for almost a decade.
